Hello everyone,,
I was about to set up a VPN at home using a Rasperry Pi as suggested by several users on this sub, until I got quite confused.
I understand the benefit of the VPN if you're connecting to it on your phone from a coffeeshop with open Wi-Fi and you're afraid of hackers.
But if i'm sitting in my house on my home network surely I am sending data to the Pi VPN that is only encrypted within my network, and once it leaves that network it is unencrypted again? All of the data that goes through the VPN will be visible by the ISP unencrypted, which surely defeats one of the main benefits of a VPN! Apart from those instances when you are on open Wi-Fi, there are no real benefits to this set-up from a privacy/security point of view.
I am asking this because in all of the tutorials for «Pi OpenVPN home networks» I have seen, this point was not mentioned and I was wondering if maybe I was misunderstanding something.
